Student Expectations/Experiences Assessment
OIR administers two national surveys about student expectations and experiences. These provide valuable data for improvement along with comparative data from other institutions in the U.S.
The College Students Expectations Questionnaire (CSXQ) is administered to all first-year students during Orientation. It provides valuable data on students’ expectations about workload, extra-curricular activities and interactions with faculty and staff.
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is administered to all first-year students early in the spring semester, and will be administered to seniors in the future. NSSE assess the extent to which first-year and senior students engage in educational practices associated with high levels of learning and development. NSSE has received considerable national attention as a meaningful measure of educational quality.
Both surveys were developed at Indiana University, which provides comparative data at the national level.
